Coproduction of Fresh Water and Ammonia

- Parallel to emissions of green house gases, scarcity of fresh water is well recognized requiring desalination of seawater using fossil energy.
- Global demand of ammonia at present is more than 150 million tonnes/year and rapidly expanding as ammonia is being considered as hydrogen carrier.
- Hybrid OTEC system for simultaneous seawater desalination and production of carbon-free ammonia is a disruptive and promising technology for sustainable supply of commodity products.
